Plan Your Next Haircut: A Free Chart and Consultation Worksheet

September 12, 20264 min readBy FaceRating.ai Team, Product and style resources

A shape label can help you explore a haircut, but it leaves out much of the decision: the length you enjoy, your natural texture, how much styling you want to do and what you want to keep about your current look. Our free chart and worksheet are designed to make that conversation more useful.

Start with what you want to keep

Before comparing silhouettes, write down your preferred length and the time you want to spend styling. A cut that looks appealing in a reference photo may require a routine you do not want. These preferences should narrow the shortlist before a shape label does.

In our hairstyle guide, choose masculine or feminine styles, short, medium or long hair, your texture and your styling routine. The guide offers five options for each combination. Your choice controls the shortlist; the app does not infer your style preference from your face.

Use the chart to compare, not to eliminate

The face-shape chart shows six simplified outlines with hair and glasses ideas. You may recognize parts of more than one outline. That is a reason to compare alternatives, rather than force yourself into a category.

For example, someone exploring an oblong outline can compare side volume with a taller style. Someone with a round outline might compare an angled cut with a softer shape. Neither comparison tells you what you must wear. Decide which effect you prefer, then ask whether it works with your texture and routine.

Bring a shortlist to your stylist

Choose several ideas and explain what you like about each one: the fringe, the length, the amount of volume or the way it grows out. Ask your stylist how those details would work with your current hair. The pictograms show outlines; they are not photographs of the result you will get.

The free worksheet includes space for your preferences, five shortlisted cuts and questions about texture, styling tools, maintenance and cost. Save it privately and bring it to your appointment. You do not need to upload your notes to FaceRating.ai.
