What golden ratio compliance actually looks like
The average face reaches 77.28% compliance. The median is 78%. Only 4.4% of people exceed 85%, and the highest single figure in 17,032 analyses is 96%.
That last number is worth sitting with. Nobody in the dataset is "golden ratio perfect", and the celebrity claims you have seen — 99%, 100% — are almost always one proportion measured on one photograph, presented as a whole-face result.
Compliance rises with rating — but far less than symmetry does
Here is the honest version, which no other page on this term will give you. Golden-ratio compliance does climb as the overall rating climbs:
| Overall rating | People | Avg. compliance |
|---|---|---|
| 4.0 – 4.9 | 4,230 | 74.98% |
| 5.0 – 5.9 | 8,450 | 77% |
| 6.0 – 6.9 | 2,891 | 78.07% |
| 7.0 – 7.9 | 824 | 82.28% |
| 8.0 – 8.9 | 524 | 89.03% |
From the bottom band to the top, compliance moves about 14 percentage points. Real, but modest — and the overall correlation is only 0.67.
The comparison that matters
Measured on the same 17,032 faces, at the same time: facial symmetry correlates with the overall rating at 0.95. Golden ratio manages 0.67. If you are going to care about one number, symmetry is the one that carries information.
Figures use analyses from January 2026 onward (n=17,032), after the Dec 2025 model recalibration. Earlier analyses used a different scale.
Why the golden ratio is everywhere in this industry
Because it produces an impressive-sounding percentage. "You are 82% golden ratio compliant" reads as precise and scientific, and it has the added commercial advantage of implying a specific gap you could pay to close. A symmetry score does not market as well, even though it predicts better.
The historical claim is shakier than the marketing implies too. Phi's association with beauty comes largely from twentieth-century popularisation rather than from the Renaissance sources it is usually attributed to, and attempts to demonstrate a strong link between phi compliance and rated attractiveness have produced mixed results.
We still measure and report it, because people want the number and it does carry some signal. We just publish what it is worth alongside it.
Frequently asked questions
What is the golden ratio of a face?
The golden ratio (phi, roughly 1.618) is a proportion that appears in geometry and art. Applied to faces, "compliance" measures how closely the relationships between features — the thirds of the face, the width of the mouth against the nose, the position of the eyes — approach that proportion. Here it is an AI model’s estimate from your photo, not a ruler reading. Whether it means what people claim is a separate question.
What is a good golden ratio score for a face?
The average across 17,032 analyses is 77.28% compliance, with a median of 78%. Only 4.4% of people exceed 85%. The single highest figure we have ever measured is 96% — so nobody, anywhere in the dataset, is close to "perfect".
Does the golden ratio actually predict attractiveness?
Weakly. In our data golden-ratio compliance correlates with the overall rating at 0.67, while facial symmetry — measured on the same faces, at the same time — correlates at 0.95. Compliance does rise with score, so it is not meaningless, but it explains far less than the marketing around it suggests.
Has anyone ever scored 100% on the golden ratio?
Not in 17,032 analyses. The maximum observed is 96%. Claims that a celebrity is "99% golden ratio perfect" generally come from a single measurement of one proportion on one photograph, not a full facial analysis.
Is the golden ratio face test free?
Yes. Golden-ratio compliance comes with the free rating, alongside the twelve feature scores, symmetry among them. You sign in first — one tap — and it is free.
Should I get surgery to improve my golden ratio?
That is a decision for you and a qualified surgeon, not for a website — but the number itself is a poor reason. Compliance correlates with the overall rating at only 0.67, and the entire range between the lowest and highest scoring bands in our data is about 14 percentage points. Optimising the metric that predicts least is the wrong place to spend risk or money.
