    Every analysis on FaceRating.ai scores twelve facial features alongside the overall rating. That makes it possible to ask a question the looksmaxxing internet argues about constantly and almost never answers with data: which feature actually separates a high-scoring face from a low-scoring one? The popular answer is bone structure and the jawline. Across 17,032 analyses, the most consistent answer is skin — on two of the three ways you can measure it.

    What separates a high score from a low one

    One way to rank features is to compare what people scoring 8 or above get on each one against what people scoring below 5 get. A feature with a large gap is doing real work in the overall rating; a feature with a small gap barely distinguishes anyone. On this measure the top three — jawline, bone structure, skin — sit within 0.08 points of each other, which is too close to call a winner. The bottom of the table is more informative: the forehead (2.82) and eyebrows (3.16) barely distinguish a high scorer from a low one at all.

    Skin is where most people lose points

    The second measurement points the same way. For every face we recorded which of the twelve features scored lowest. Skin is the weakest feature for 38% of people2.5 times forehead (15%), the next most common. It is also the lowest-scoring feature on average (5.3/10) and the most variable in the dataset (standard deviation 1.29, the widest of the twelve) — exactly what you would expect from something driven by sleep, sun exposure and skincare rather than by bone.

    At the other end, eyebrows are the strongest feature for 29.3% of people, ahead of eyes at 20.1%. Eyes are the most reliably non-weak feature — lowest-scoring for only 0.1% of faces. Notably, the two features people most often lead with, eyebrows and eyes, are both ones that grooming and rest can genuinely move.

    Average score by feature

    Ranked by raw average, the lowest scorers are skin (5.3) and nose (5.36); the highest are the eyes (5.97) and eyebrows (5.94). Note how differently the two rankings behave: the nose scores near the bottom on average but has one of the smallest gaps between high and low scorers (3.5), meaning almost everyone scores similarly on it. A low average is not the same as a feature that decides your rating.

    "Best/worst feature" = share of the 17,032 faces for which this feature scored highest or lowest. Ties are split evenly (44.8% of faces tie for best, 58% for worst), so each column sums to 100%.

    Why this uses 17,032 scans and not all 25,762

    The model was recalibrated at the end of 2025. Analyses from November 2025 average 7.55/10 overall and December 6.18, while every month from January 2026 onward sits between 5.46 and 5.90. Those are two different scales, and averaging across them produces figures that describe neither period. Every number on this page therefore uses the current scoring model only17,032 analyses from January to August 2026 — so it reflects what a scan actually returns today. The 25,762 figure you will see elsewhere on the site is the lifetime total across both periods.

    Faces are more consistent than people assume

    A common worry is that one bad feature is dragging everything down. The data does not support it. The average distance between a person's best and worst feature is 1.38 points (median 1.5) — faces score consistently across features rather than pairing a 9 with a 3. Every feature also correlates tightly with the overall score (r = 0.87 to 0.99), which is why the high-vs-low gap above is the more informative comparison: when everything correlates, what matters is how far apart the extremes actually sit.

    Why this is good news

    The looksmaxxing consensus fixates on bone structure and jawlines — the two things nobody can change without surgery. This data points somewhere more useful. The feature with the most separating power is skin, which responds to sunscreen, retinoids, sleep and time. The second most common strength, eyebrows, responds to grooming.     Methodology

    This study aggregates 17,032 completed face-rating analyses on FaceRating.ai (January – August 2026) that carry a full set of twelve feature sub-scores (0–10) alongside an overall score. The model also returns a "masculinity" dimension; it is excluded here because it describes a trait rather than rating quality, so averaging it alongside the others would be meaningless. The high-vs-low gap compares the 560 analyses scoring 8.0+ against the 4,307 scoring below 5.0. Correlations are Pearson's r between each feature and the overall score. All figures are aggregate and anonymized — no individual results, images, or personal data are included. Feature scores tie often (44.8% of faces tie for their best feature, 58% for their worst), so "best/worst feature" shares split ties evenly between the tied features rather than awarding them to one — an order-dependent rule would materially change the ranking. Three limits worth stating: these are the model's own sub-scores, so the results describe how this system weighs features rather than an objective fact about faces; the sample is self-selected rather than population-representative; and the figures cover the current scoring model only (January 2026 onward), for the reason set out above.
