Every analysis on FaceRating.ai classifies the face into a shape alongside the score. That makes two questions answerable at once: which face shape is actually most common, and does shape track the rating? The first has a clean answer. The second has a more interesting one than the internet's "square jaw wins" consensus — because it depends entirely on who you are.
How common is each face shape?
Two shapes dominate. Oblong and oval together account for 86.7% of every face analysed, which means the shape charts that give equal billing to seven categories are misleading about how faces actually distribute. Square — the shape most prized in looksmaxxing forums — is the rarest of the four at 2.6%.

Men and women have different faces — literally
The overall distribution hides a sharp split. Among women, oval is 71% — nearly three in four. Among men, oblong is 55% and oval only 32.7%. Any "most common face shape" answer that does not say which gender it is describing is averaging two very different populations.

Men n = 12,775 (average 5.55); women n = 4,257 (average 5.71). Female square faces number only 53, so that cell is the least reliable figure in the table.
"Square is best" is a men-only result
Square is the top-scoring shape overall at 6.76/10, and 47.9% of square faces score a 7 or above — against 5.4% of oval faces and 0.1% of round ones, in a dataset where only 8.1% of everyone reaches a 7. That looks like emphatic support for the jawline consensus.
It does not survive splitting by gender. Male square faces average 6.97, comfortably above the male average of 5.55. Female square faces average 5.14 — below the female average of 5.71. And because 88% of the square faces in this data are male, the headline number is essentially the male number wearing a disguise. A square jaw is an asset in this model's reading of male faces and a mild liability in female ones.
Round is the one result that holds for everyone
Round faces score lowest overall (4.86), lowest among men (4.74) and lowest among women (5.04). The margin is wide: 65.9% of round faces score below a 5, against 14.3% of oval faces, and essentially none reach a 7. Round faces also carry the lowest symmetry scores (4.9/10 against 6.74 for square), so this is not shape acting alone — shape and the other measured features move together.
The more useful angle is headroom. Round faces have the largest gap between their current and potential score of any shape — 6.51 against 4.86, a gap of 1.65 points. Methodology
This study aggregates 17,032 completed face-rating analyses on FaceRating.ai (January - August 2026), covering the current scoring model only — the model was recalibrated in December 2025 and mixing the two scales would describe neither. Of 25,762 lifetime analyses, these are the ones on the current model. The shape label is free text: 145 distinct strings appear in this window, so a face counts toward a shape only when exactly one canonical shape word is present — labels naming two shapes ("oval to oblong", "square-oval hybrid") are grouped as mixed rather than forced into a bucket. All figures are aggregate and anonymized. Three limits worth stating: the same model assigns both the shape and the score in a single pass, so these results describe how this system reads faces rather than an independent fact about face shapes; gender is the model's inference, not self-reported; and the sample is self-selected, skewing male (75%).
